All of our boards can be personalized with custom engraving.
When placing your order, simply select the engraving option on the product page. You will then be guided through the steps needed to provide your engraving details.
For text engraving, you will enter the wording directly in the engraving field before adding the item to your cart.
For handwritten recipes, signatures, or logos, you will be asked to upload an image file during the ordering process.
Our team carefully engraves your design directly into the wood, creating a permanent and meaningful personalization that will not fade or wash off.
Engraving is created directly in the surface of the wood using precision laser engraving. The engraving appears as a natural darker tone in the wood, not colored ink or paint.
On some product examples, you may see engraving shown in red text. The red color is only used in previews to show where engraving will appear or what text can be changed. The actual engraving on your board will not contain any color.
Because every board is made from real hardwood, the tone and grain of the wood will vary slightly. This means the engraving may appear slightly lighter or darker depending on the natural character of the board.
If you notice a mistake in the engraving details you submitted, please contact us as soon as possible.
If your order has not yet entered production, we may be able to correct the engraving. Once engraving has started, changes cannot be made.
We always recommend double-checking spelling, dates, and punctuation before submitting your order to ensure everything appears exactly as you want it engraved.
Every Roots To Table board is made from real hardwood, which means no two pieces of wood are ever identical.
Wood species like walnut, maple, and cherry naturally vary in color, grain pattern, and tone. Because each board is handcrafted from real wood, the exact grain and color will always be unique.
Many of our boards also feature natural live edges, which follow the original shape of the tree. These edges, along with natural knots, voids, and character marks, are part of what makes each piece one of a kind.
On some serving boards, small natural voids may be filled with food-safe epoxy to stabilize the wood while preserving its natural character. Epoxy is not used on cutting boards.
The photos on our website represent the style and design of the board, but the exact grain pattern, color, and natural features will vary from piece to piece.
No. We do not use stains or artificial coloring on our boards.
The color you see comes from the natural color of the wood itself. Species like walnut and maple naturally contain a wide range of tones, which is why some boards may show both lighter and darker areas.
To protect the wood, we use food-safe finishes such as mineral oil, beeswax, or clear Rubio Monocoat depending on the product.
Natural hardwood contains a wide range of tones within the same piece of wood, which is completely normal.
Species like walnut, maple, and cherry naturally vary in color and character. Walnut often shows contrast between lighter and darker areas due to the difference between sapwood and heartwood. Maple can range from very light and uniform to areas with darker tones or natural markings such as spalting.
Cherry is unique in that it naturally darkens and develops a richer color over time as it is exposed to light and air. This is a normal aging process and part of what gives cherry its beautiful character.
Because we do not use stains or artificial coloring, the tones you see are the true natural colors of the wood. These variations are a natural part of working with real hardwood and help make every Roots To Table board one of a kind.
Gently scrape off any food residue using a spatula or scraper. Wash your board by hand using warm water and mild dish soap, then dry it thoroughly with a towel.
Do not soak the board in water or place it in the dishwasher, as excessive heat and moisture can damage natural wood.
After washing, avoid leaving the board flat on the counter while it is still wet, as trapped moisture underneath is one of the most common causes of warping.
Once towel dried, allow the board to stand upright on its side until it is completely dry.
To keep your board protected and looking its best, apply a food safe wood conditioner or mineral oil periodically.
At Roots To Table, we recommend using board butter, which is a blend of mineral oil and beeswax designed to help condition and protect the wood.
How often depends on use, but a good rule is to reapply conditioner when the wood begins to look dry or dull.
Regular conditioning helps protect the wood and maintain its natural beauty.
No. Wood boards should never be placed in the dishwasher.
Dishwashers expose wood to excessive heat and water, which can cause cracking, warping, or splitting.
Always wash your board by hand and dry it promptly.
